Sports Business Minute: No union for Northwestern

Share

Brace yourselves, college football is only a couple weeks away! And the only other thing you should know: Northwestern University will not unionize. The National Labor Relations Board exercised its discretion to not take charge of the issue and dismissed the petition.

According to Comcast SportsNet Sports Business Insider Rick Horrow, now that the players are not able to unionize at Northwestern or any other school, they might even have more rights than before. In fact, a lot of the things they've been fighting for have been heard loud and clear. Since Northwestern started this movement, there has been an increase in scholarships and stipends, a bottom line of medical care and food restrictions have been lifted.

Essentially, it's a major victory for Northwestern and the NCAA.
