49ers-Cardinals inactives: Richard Sherman returns to action

SANTA CLARA -- Cornerback Richard Sherman will return to the 49ers' starting lineup Sunday after missing just 1½ games with a mid-calf strain.

But the 49ers will be down a contributing cornerback, as oft-injured Jimmie Ward was ruled out for the game after sustaining a hamstring injury late in Thursday’s practice. Ward didn't practice Friday.

Sherman originally was expected to miss at least two weeks. As part of the contract he negotiated with the 49ers in March, Sherman receives a $125,000 bonus for every game he suits up.

Cornerbacks Greg Mabin and Ahkello Witherspoon are expected to see action on the other side.

The 49ers will have their entire offensive line intact to play against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium, as Joe Staley, Mike McGlinchey, Weston Richburg and Mike Person will be available. All were limited last week with knee injuries.

Guard Joshua Garnett is healthy after sustaining a toe injury in Week 1, but he was inactive, as the 49ers went with Erik Magnuson to be the backup interior offensive lineman. Magnuson has the flexibility to play guard and center, as well as fill in at tackle.

Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is not active because of hamstring and thigh injuries. The 49ers activated Victor Bolden on Saturday from the exempt list to suit up for Sunday’s game.
