49ers legend Steve Young has best reaction after trending on Twitter

If an older celebrity's name is trending on Twitter, people often assume the worst. That can be said during "normal" times, let alone in the midst of a global pandemic.

If you're the older celebrity whose name is trending on Twitter, it turns out you might, too.

Legendary 49ers quarterback Steve Young is just 58, but he joked that he couldn't be too careful Saturday. The Pro Football Hall of Famer saw he was trending and jokingly put his -- and his followers' -- fears to rest with an all-time tweet.

You don't need Young's Twitter bio telling you he's a father of four with tweets like this. The Super Bowl XXIX MVP had fewer than 10 tweets, replies and retweets to his name before setting the record straight Saturday, but he clearly is far more online than those meager totals would indicate.

After all, how many times have you seen a tweet like Young's on your timeline? Replace the QB's name with Betty White's or another beloved public figure, and you've probably lost count. The GIF, in all its overused glory, is icing on the cake.

As inspired as Young's tweet was, not everything on Twitter can rise to a Hall of Fame level.

Young wasn't trending because people thought something happened to him. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller tweeted catnip for the content-starved sports fan, asking one iteration of the tired age-old question that singlehandedly has powered millions* of hours of sports-talk radio: Which Quarterback Is Better?

At least he went with people other than Dan Marino and Joe Montana.
