While Warriors fans watched Andrew Wiggins in a forgettable episode of "The Twilight Zone" on Tuesday night, 49ers fans' biggest draft crush was the Kevin Durant of the Boca Raton Bowl. The game was just too easy for Zach Wilson.
The BYU quarterback completed 26 of his 34 pass attempts for a career-high 425 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed into the end zone two times, ending the night with five total TDs in BYU's 49-23 beat down of UCF. Wilson scored all five of his touchdowns in the first half, putting the game away in a hurry.
What's Wilson's next step now? Well, 49ers fans certainly hope his next home is Santa Clara. However, the odds still are stacked against San Francisco, even with a lowly 5-9 record.

Wilson finished his junior year with 3,692 passing yards, 33 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He completed 73.5 percent of his pass attempts, and rushed for another 10 touchdowns. No prospect has helped himself more this year. Like Joe Burrow a year ago, Wilson went from a mid-round prospect to a top pick come next year's NFL draft.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the top pick in the draft. Whether that's to the Jacksonville Jaguars or New York Jets, it's a done deal. No question about it. But the No. 2 QB now seems up for grabs.
San Francisco 49ers
Going into the season, Lawrence and Ohio State's Justin Fields seemed like the consensus top two quarterbacks in the 2021 draft. Lawrence has kept his place, however, Fields might be slipping after lackluster performances against Indiana and Northwestern. The Athletic's Dane Brugler recently wrote "I do think Wilson is the current favorite to be the second quarterback drafted." That would take the 49ers out of the Wilson sweepstakes.
Going into Week 16, the 49ers own the No. 12 pick in the draft. There still are five teams -- Jaguars, Jets, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions -- that are ahead of the 49ers and could be in the market for a QB. That number goes to six if the Dallas Cowboys don't re-sign injured star Dak Prescott. The likelihood is the two quarterbacks the 49ers could be choosing between are Trey Lance of North Dakota State and Mac Jones of Alabama.

The two are polar opposites. Lance is a run-first QB with a very strong arm, while Jones will never be a threat on the ground but is extremely accurate and throws a great deep ball. What would Kyle Shanahan prefer? That's a big question that must be answered after such a disappointing season.
Here's the truth: A lot can change between now and next spring. Really, a lot can change between now and the next two weeks when it comes to draft order. As it sits now, however, Wilson to the 49ers feels like a long shot.
