Injury-riddled 49ers reduce practice to just walk-through

The 49ers on Thursday made a change to their practice plan to account for the physical state of the team.

Coach Kyle Shanahan adjusted the team’s practice plan from a fully padded workout to a walk-through. The move comes as the 49ers have seen a number of players limited or out due to injuries through 10 practices sessions this summer in Santa Clara.

The initial indication is the decision was not influenced by the protests of professional clubs across the country in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Shanahan is scheduled to speak with the media later Thursday morning.

The 49ers had eight players who began training camp healthy two weeks ago sit out practice on Wednesday.

Defensive linemen Nick Bosa (upper leg) and Dee Ford (lower leg), wide receiver Brandon Aikyuk (hamstring) and center Ben Garland (ankle) are expected to miss a couple of weeks due to injuries. Also missing practice were fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end Ross Dwelley, guard Ross Reynolds and safety Marcell Harris.
