Butler -- who played 97.8 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps during the regular season -- was surprisingly benched and didn't play a single defensive snap in the Super Bowl.
The four-year pro will turn 28 years old on March 2.
He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins on March 14.
Butler was named to the Pro Bowl in 2015.
