Bills' Allen wears Gore 49ers jersey in old family photo

Watching the NFL playoffs isn’t the same when your team isn’t competing.

But if you’re a 49ers fan, perhaps you can root for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills without feeling too guilty. Check out this photo of Allen as a youngster rocking the Frank Gore jersey in an old family photo.

Allen grew up in Firebaugh, Calif., about 40 miles west of Fresno, and was only nine years old when Gore made his debut with the 49ers. Funny to think the two were teammates in 2019 in Buffalo, when Gore gave Allen a signed jersey. Not to mention the 49ers could have drafted Allen with the No. 2 overall pick in 2017 had he not returned to Wyoming for his senior year.

Allen threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns in the Week 13 win against San Francisco, so forget that if you’re a 49ers fan, and feel free to jump on the Bills’ bandwagon. They’re an AFC East team and certainly not a rival, so no mixed-up allegiances there.

Buffalo is the biggest underdog remaining in the postseason, too. Buffalo will face the Chiefs in next week’s AFC Championship game, in its first appearance in the conference title game since its 1993 Super Bowl run.

Not saying you have to buy an Allen jersey, but it doesn’t hurt to have a horse in the race if you’re a 49ers fan looking for a guy to cheer for the rest of the playoffs.
