Deebo Samuel receives high praise from former 49ers WR Torrey Smith

What a compliment.

Two-time Super Bowl champion Torrey Smith knows a thing or two about being a strong wide receiver. He also knows what it takes to maintain that position on the 49ers as he played for the team from 2015-17.

Smith, who played eight NFL seasons, recently sang the praise of the team’s offense during a spot on 95.7 The Game

"I think they've got a lot of very capable receivers on their roster right now," Smith said on Thursday. "I think if [Marquise] Goodwin is healthy, that helps. But they have to have that speed element to it. Emmanuel [Sanders] is one of the best route runners in the league, and I thought he did a great job meshing. I thought it was a great trade for the team, as well.”

Sanders became not only a solid portion of the offensive game under Kyle Shanahan, but turned into a mentor to the younger wide receiver class. He recently signed a two-year contract with the Saints after a stellar season with San Francisco.

Deebo Samuel specifically wanted the veteran wideout to return to the Faithful.

Smith spoke highly of Samuel and how diverse he is.

"I love what they're doing with Deebo Samuel," Smith continued. "He's able to get the ball so many different ways. And when the passing game is stalling, you can get the ball to him. He's like a running back with the ball. So to see his growth, he's going to be amazing, and continue to get better in year two.”

Samuel caught 57 passes for 802 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie last season with 10.6 yards per game.

Smith went on to say there are very few things the 49ers need to work on if they want to return to the Super Bowl during this upcoming season.
