Dolphins use 49ers' first-rounder from Lance trade in Tyreek deal

The Miami Dolphins stunned the NFL world Wednesday when they reportedly traded five draft picks to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill ... with a little help from the 49ers.

The Dolphins used the 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall) acquired from the 49ers in last spring's NFL draft blockbuster as the centerpiece of the deal.

Last March, the 49ers traded their 2021, 2022 and 2023 first-round picks along with a 2022 third-round pick to the Dolphins to move up to No. 3 overall to select Trey Lance.

Now, that 2022 first-round pick is headed to Kansas City. It's a pick the Chiefs likely will use to reload their receiver depth after losing one of the NFL's most dynamic weapons in Hill.

The 2022 draft class is filled with talented receivers led by Ohio State's Garrett Wilson, Alabama's Jameson Williams, Arkansas' Treylon Burks and USC's Drake London.

With the acquisition of Hill, the former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel now has an offense that is loaded at the skill positions. Hill will join a wide receiver room that has 2021 first-round pick Jaylen Waddle and DeVante Parker. Miami also has one of the best tight ends in the NFL in Mike Gesicki and added running backs Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert this offseason.

McDaniel has spoken glowingly about his relationship with Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers left him a "Welcome Home" gift in South Beach -- a pair of first-round picks and a way to add one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
