A's All-Star closer Blake Treinen wins record-setting arbitration case

Blake Treinen set a record without even lifting a ball yet.

The A's closer won his arbitration case, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Saturday, and will make $6.4 million this season.

Last year, Treinen became one of the premier pitchers in the game, finishing the season with a phenomenal 0.78 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 80.1 innings and collecting 38 saves. He also received an All-Star selection and was in American League Cy Young Award talks and even MVP talks ... as a closer (!)

The increase from the $2.15 million he made last season is a record for a reliever going from his first to his second year of arbitration eligibility.

And he's worth it.

The question will be, can Treinen duplicate his historic season that he leaves behind? Your Magic 8 Ball could have a better answer, but he's in his prime, so whatever we get to witness next season will be something to see.

Get excited, A's fans.
