The Athletics' Howard Terminal plans appear to be getting some traction.
The Oakland City Council has responded to A’s possible relocation efforts and has sent a letter to Major League Baseball about negotiating with the organization, according to KRON 4 News and The San Francisco Chronicle.
The letter, which was obtained by KRON, states the City Council “is committed to negotiating in good faith for a strong future for the A’s in Oakland.” For now, it appears the proposal will be on the city council’s agenda for July 20.

The letter also says the City Council is ready to explore the request for the waterfront ballpark.
This is positive news for the A’s. Team president Dave Kaval told NBC Sports California this week that it’s “Howard [Terminal] or bust” as far as the future of the team in Oakland.
This was in response to the league giving the A’s instruction to pursue other cities for possible relocation after the organization struggled with its plans to build the waterfront ballpark.
“We really want to get a vote in front of the city council,” Kaval said on Tuesday. “Even with that, we still need to look at what other options exist beyond Oakland just to have other options as an organization for the good of baseball, for our community and understanding where our future is as a franchise.”

The A’s current lease at the Oakland Coliseum is set to expire in 2024.

Kaval also stressed that it doesn’t make sense to build a new stadium at the current site.
The proposal that was presented includes $450 million of community benefits.
The city council discussion on July 20 could go a long way in determining the A's future.
