Braden sounds off on ump's ‘blatant' missed calls that hurt A's

The Athletics were able to salvage one game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday at the Oakland Coliseum after dropping the first two contests, winning 3-2 in walk-off fashion.

However, while leading 2-0 in the eighth inning, the A's dealt with adversity in the form of missed strike calls from home plate umpire Ryan Wills.

With two outs and a runner on, Marlins third baseman Jon Berti drew a walk that shouldn't have happened. NBC Sports California A's analyst sounded off on Wills' non-strike calls for Oakland reliever Zach Jackson.

"So that's two fastballs that have just, I don't know, disappeared," Braden said on the broadcast. "I'm not quite sure what's going on, but take a look. This is the pitch. Yeah. That's a strike.

"... I've got three, three strikes, three blatant strikes. And this last one I can understand just because of the way the pitch was received, right? The way it's caught. But that's three blatant strikes, not called."

Braden also expressed his displeasure on Twitter.

Berti's walk kept the inning alive, and the Marlins wound up cutting Oakland's lead in half following an RBI single from Miguel Rojas. Then, in the top of the ninth, the Marlins evened the score 2-2 with a game-tying home run from catcher Nick Fortes, sending the game to extra innings.

Nonetheless, the A's would overcome the bad calls from Wills.

David MacKinnon started the 10th inning on second base and moved to third on a wild pitch. Skye Bolt played the hero, hitting the walk-off sac fly for the 3-2 win.

The A's will now hope to gain momentum following the victory as Oakland heads into a four-game series with the New York Yankees, who have struggled in the second half of the MLB season
