Frankie Montas, the Athletics' ace, was forced to leave the game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in the second inning Saturday after taking a line drive off his right hand.
With one out in the bottom of the second inning, Angels infielder Luis Rengifo crushed the first pitch he saw right back at Montas, who put both hands up to defend himself.
The ball appeared to first hit Montas' bare right hand and then deflect off his glove. The ball rolled away but Montas still had the ability to chase it down and flip the ball to A's first baseman Seth Brown to get Rengifo.

Montas was in immediate pain, grimacing as A's trainer Nick Paparesta and manager Mark Kotsay checked on him.
Montas tried to see if he could stay in the game, but after several minutes, the decision was made to remove him. Reliever Domingo Acevedo replaced him.

The 29-year-old allowed one hit and struck out two Angels in 1 2/3 innings Saturday, and has a 3.55 ERA after the brief outing.
