Mets second baseman Robinson Canó tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs for the second time of his career, the team announced Wednesday. He will be suspended for the entirety of the 2021 season, forfeiting his $24 million salary.
Canó missed 80 games in 2018 when he previously tested positive for PEDs, and despite the MLB protocol to suspend a second-time violator for the season, A’s reliever Jake Diekman believes Cano should be banned for life.

Diekman always has been one to speak his mind, and as a pitcher who is on the other side of it, his reaction is understandable. Especially in the case of a second-time offender.
Canó tested positive for Stanozolol which, according to the USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency), is derived from testosterone and has anabolic and androgenic properties, and can be used to assist with growth failure.

The MLB Joint Drug Policy states that if someone were to violate the substance agreement for the third time, they would be banned permanently from Minor League and Major League Baseball.
