When it was announced Sunday that A's third baseman Matt Chapman had been selected to the 2019 AL All-Star team, he was in the midst of a game -- a game in which he played at an All-Star-caliber level.
He had a career-high six RBI, with a three-run homer, to lift the A's over the Angels 12-3 and finish a 5-1 road trip.
"Just good timing," Chapman said with a smile after the win in Anaheim.

The 26-year-old found out about the Midsummer Classic nod before the series finale against the Angels, but he said it was just a coincidence with the way he performed at the plate.
"Getting that news this morning, you know -- it felt like I was getting called up -- that's kind of the feeling I would describe it as," Chapman said. "I didn't know what to expect. I didn't want to get my hopes up."
The 2018 Platinum Glove Award winner will go to the July 9 game in Cleveland as the sole A's All-Star -- a bittersweet feeling for him.

"I wish some of my teammates would come with me, but I'm still going to really enjoy the moment," he said.
"It means a lot," Chapman added. "As a little kid, I feel like I was growing up watching the Home Run Derby and watching those All-Star Games, and it's an exciting time, and dreaming of being a pro baseball player and dreaming of making an All-Star Game and a World Series -- those are pretty much the top three right there. To be able to accomplish that, it feels great."

A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters the team wasn't surprised to hear Chapman was an All-Star, but they, of course, were happy for him.
"For him to get voted in by the players, too, is the biggest feather in his cap," Melvin said. "If you're going to make a game like that -- if you can get voted in by the players, it means a lot."
