Quakes snap two-game skid, hold off Union for road point
Holding off Philly
Thanks goodness for Andrew Tarbell.
The Earthquakes will count their fortunate stars on the flight back from Philadelphia following a 1-1 draw with the Union. Were it not for some rock-solid goalkeeping by Tarbell, the Quakes would be the victims of three straight losses. As it stands, it's the first draw of the year for San Jose.
Man of the Match
Man of the Match: Tarbell was spectacular. He didn't the sort of saves that will net him some fancy Instagram voting prize, but he made several that preserved the draw. In all, the man in his second year guarding what matters most had seven saves.
Goals: Magnus Eriksson is on the goal sheet for San Jose. The Swede capitalized on a deep run by Danny Hoesen, who took a defender on on the right side before laying the ball off to rendezvous with Eriksson's boot in the 37th minute. Eriksson co-led the Swedish top-flight Allsvenskan with 14 goals in 2017.
Injury report: None to announce. The Quakes leave Philly relatively healthy. Of note: Joel Qwiberg saw his first action of the season.
Up next: The Quakes will welcome the Houston Dynamo to Avaya Stadium on April 14.
