After one of the most dominant runs to a title in World Cup history, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team returned to the United States on Monday after wrapping up the 2019 Women’s World Cup with a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands

The champions touched down in Newark, N.J. and received a hero’s welcome, as they collected the program’s fourth World Cup title. Queen's "We are the Champions" fittingly blasted out of speakers on the runway as the ladies sang along during their descent to the tarmac.

Head coach Jill Ellis and her squad have now won each of the past two World Cups, and this one was particularly impressive due to the way the U.S. just systematically took down each opponent they faced, with no shortage of iconic moments that set the world’s social media channels ablaze with comments.

The team was spearheaded by a trio of women with Bay Area ties, as Cal graduate Alex Morgan tied for the team lead in goals with Redding native Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe also took home both the Golden Boot for top scorer and the Golden Ball awarded to the best overall player.

Stanford alum Christen Press also headed in the winning goal during the team's victory over England in the semifinals.
