Dodgers' Bauer under investigation in assault case

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer is under investigation over allegations of assault, the Pasadena, Calif., police department confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area on Tuesday night.

"The Pasadena Police Department is looking into allegations of an assault involving Mr. Bauer," Lt. William Grisafe said in an email response to the network's inquiry.

TMZ Sports first reported the investigation, which stems from a woman's claim that Bauer assaulted her earlier this year. The woman was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order, multiple outlets reported.

"Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible," the woman's attorney, Marc Garelick, said in a statement to TMZ Sports. "We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously."

Bauer's agent, Jon Fetterolf, told TMZ Sports that the pitcher "had a brief and wholly consensual sexual relationship initiated by [the accuser] beginning in April 2021," and denied any wrongdoing by his client.

"Mr. Bauer and [the accuser] have not corresponded in over a month and have not seen each other in over six weeks," Fetterolf told TMZ Sports. "Her basis for filing a protection order is nonexistent, fraudulent, and deliberately omits key facts, information, and her own relevant communications. Any allegations that the pair’s encounters were not 100% consensual are baseless, defamatory, and will be refuted to the fullest extent of the law."

The Dodgers released a statement in which they announced that Major League Baseball would handle the matter and added that the team takes “any allegations of this nature seriously.”

Lt. Grisafe told the Los Angeles Times the alleged incident happened in Pasadena on or around May 16, and that police opened an investigation a few weeks ago.

Lt. Carolyn Gordon, whom the Times reported is overseeing the investigation, told the newspaper that police haven't yet sent the case to the district attorney's office. ESPN, citing a source, reported that could happen as soon as Wednesday, and the DA's office then would decide how to move forward with the case.

Bauer, 30, is the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, and is in the first year of a three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers. He last pitched Monday night against the Giants.
