Prior to the start of the 2020 MLB season, the Giants were seen as a team that would be competing more for the No. 1 pick in next year's draft as opposed to this year's playoffs. However, before falling apart the final few days, the Giants had the postseason in their sights for much of the season.
Still, general manager Scott Harris knows there's work to be done. A lot of work.
"We have quite a bit to do this offseason," Harris said Friday to KNBR's Mark Willard.

Harris then presented an interesting offseason to-do list, highlighting three spots on the roster: Starting rotation, bullpen and a left-handed bat.
Regarding the Giants' starting rotation, there's mutual interest in free agents Kevin Gausman and Drew Smyly returning to San Francisco. Jonny Cueto also has one more season on his contract, and Logan Webb continues to go through some growing pains at only 23 years old. Down on the farm, Sean Hjelle and Tristan Beck could get a long look at joining the staff next year.
There also are some big names on the open market like Trevor Bauer, Marcus Stroman, Masahiro Tanaka and Taijuan Walker who the Giants could take a long look at.
Some young arms like Caleb Baragar made a name for themselves in the Giants' bullpen, but Harris admitted the front office will be looking at established veteran relievers this offseason.

"I think this offseason we owe it to ourselves to target some veteran arms to complement some of the young arms in our bullpen to create more stability back there," Harris said.
As far as the offense goes, he said they're looking for more balance. In his eyes, that means possibly another left-handed bat. Could that come in free agency? Could the Giants have their eyes on a big bat like Joc Pederson, Didi Gregorious or Michael Brantley?

Everything is on the table right now. San Francisco's front office knows the focus still is the future with Joey Bart already making his debut, and players like Heliot Ramos, Hunter Bishop, Seth Corry and more on their way. At the same time, the Giants could smell the playoffs and let it slip right out their hands.
Just how aggressive will they be this offseason? That will tell us a lot about what Harris and the rest of the front office think about this roster.
