Giants prospect Ramos given Ruthian nickname by Bishop

A compliment a hitter could receive that might not be topped is being compared to the Sultan of Swat. Heliot Ramos received that honor Thursday night when he was dubbed “Babe Ruth Jr.” by fellow Giants prospect Hunter Bishop.

After Ramos hit a home run for the second game in a row for Double-A Richmond, Bishop gave him some love on Twitter:

Ramos added a single and a double to his impressive night on Thursday. Of course, he did. That’s what he does.

The 21-year-old was making diving catches during an exhibition game recently, and hitting the you-know-what out of the ball ever since. He continues to build off of an impressive spring. It’s only been three games at Double-A this season, but Ramos continues to impress.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said 2021 as Ramos’ MLB ETA is “realistic,” and when it comes to the Giants, the organization isn’t scared to dip into their farm system at a moment’s notice.

The team’s No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline slashed .290/.369/.481 in 102 games in 2019 between High-A and Double-A with 16 home runs and 55 RBI.

While his speed has decreased slightly as he’s grown into his body, Ramos' arm strength and offensive prowess make him a guy you need to keep an eye on. You’ll see him soon in a big league uniform.
