Once the Giants hired Farhan Zaidi as their president of baseball operations, it was expected the team would move in a more data-driven direction.
The latest, and perhaps most highly talked about example, is the hiring of Matt Daniels as the Giants' new coordinator of pitching analysis.
The natural question bears to ask, what exactly will Daniels be doing in the organization?

"There are definitely parts that I don't know yet," Daniels said Thursday night on KNBR. "What I will say is a lot of it has to do with assisting our minor league pitching coordinator, the director of player development and evaluations of the minor league pitchers."
Daniels comes from Driveline Baseball, the data-driven pitching and hitting training facility in Kent, Wash. He says his role with the Giants will also consist of overseeing players' day-to-day business with their throwing programs, implementing technology into bullpen sessions and looking at how in-game data effects on-field results and day-to-day training.
He also isn't the only former Driveline employee the Giants hired this offseason. The team also added Jack McGeary as a baseball operations analyst.
While Daniels says he could potentially work with the big-league club, it's clear his focus will be down on the farm.

"The priority right now is definitely the minor league system," Daniels said. "[I'll] be a resource to coaches on integrating technology, and really not just technology, but integrating all sorts of variables such as strength and conditioning."
Daniels worked at Driveline for four years and has been working with pitchers since 2009. When the opportunity with the Giants arose, he couldn't let this one slip through the cracks.
"With San Francisco, I really thought it was the best fit for me," Daniels said. "You only get to experience this kind of change every so often, in terms of the broad scope of the game. It's one of those things -- I don't want to look at 30 years down the road and think, 'Why did I not do that.'"
This is a whole new Giants regime, and Daniels is just the latest example.
