Slugfest leads to record-high over/under for Giants-Padres

With the Giants and San Diego Padres playing at unprecedented elevation in Mexico City this weekend, oddsmakers expected high-scoring games.

And after the offensive explosion in the Padres 16-11 win Saturday at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, the over/under for Sunday's series finale has been set at 20 runs, in odds provided by our partner, PointsBet.

On Saturday, the Giants and Padres combine for 11 homers and 30 hits while playing more than 7,300 feet above sea level.

While the batters had a glorious time hitting in Mexico City, the pitchers weren't as enamored with the environment.

“Working with the pitching staff, it almost looked somewhat unfair for pitchers,” Giants catcher Blake Sabol told reporters in Mexico City after Saturday's game. “You saw some guys on their side that are having great seasons and they give up a couple of homers and it still counts toward their record when they go to arbitration or they go get their contract, those numbers count. From a hitting standpoint, obviously it’s nice to be able to pad our stats, but from a catching and pitching standpoint, it just seems a little tough.

“We’re higher up than Coors Field but Coors Field’s dimensions are much larger than they are here.”

Sean Manaea, who started for the Giants, saw his ERA spike from 6.61 to 7.85 after he allowed five earned runs in two innings Saturday.

The good news for those who bet the under for Sunday's game is that Alex Cobb (1.91 ERA) is facing Yu Darvish (3.00 ERA).
