Crawford back on IL with knee inflammation; Longoria activated

The Giants once again will be without their star shortstop.

Prior to Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Oracle Park, San Francisco made a series of roster moves, including placing Brandon Crawford back on the injured list with knee inflammation -- the same injury that landed him on the IL just a few weeks ago

The Giants also activated third baseman Evan Longoria and starting pitcher Jakob Junis off the IL, with Crawford and reliever Mauricio Llovera taking their place on the 10-day and 15-day IL, respectively.

Dealt another big blow as they were starting to get healthy right before the All-Star break, the Giants will look to plug another hole, likely with Thairo Estrada taking over at short with Crawford out.

Junis, who has been on the IL since early June with a left hamstring strain, will return and pitch out of the bullpen before the All-Star break, manager Gabe Kapler told reporters Saturday morning. He should retain his spot in the rotation after the break.

Winners of three of their last four games, including a miraculous win Friday night on Mike Yastrzemski's walk-off grand slam, the Giants are headed in the right direction and are hoping to be at full strength after the break.
