Gausman jokingly wanted Alcatraz-themed City Connect jerseys

The Giants unveiled their Nike City Connect jerseys eight hours before Kevin Gausman took the mound at Oracle Park against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.

Gausman will get to wear the fog and Golden Gate Bridge-inspired jerseys this weekend when he makes his next start against the Washington Nationals.

And while Gausman likes the design that was released by the team, he actually wishes the alternate uniforms were much, much bolder.

"They are super cool, super unique," Gausman told reporters after the Giants' 5-3 loss to the Cardinals. "I was joking they probably could have made them a little more ... loud. The fog is ... I think there's so much more that goes into the city than the fog. But that's just my personal opinion. I think they should have dressed us up like prisoners at Alcatraz or something.

"I thought that would have been great, but I don't make those decisions."

The City Connect jerseys were released to mixed reviews from fans, but Gausman is convinced the fans will embrace them.

"They'll be sweet," Gausman said. "I think the fans will really like them. Having the orange Golden Gate [Bridge] on the sleeve is super cool and I think the fans will enjoy seeing them."

In the traditional home cream jerseys on Monday, Gausman was untouchable for six innings and carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Giants nemesis Nolan Arenado singled to left with one out. From that point on, Gausman was very hittable, as he allowed two runs on a triple to center by Matt Carpenter.

Gausman went seven innings and ended up taking the loss after flirting with history for 6 1/3 innings.

If Gausman is able to pick up a win -- or even throw a no-hitter -- in the fog-inspired City Connect jerseys this weekend, he might not ask for any major Alcatraz-sized changes to the uniforms.
