Webb doesn't get any support in Giants' loss to White Sox

LaMonte Wade Jr hit a leadoff homer, his second of the year, to give the Giants the early advantage over the White Sox.

The Giants' lengthy homestand against sub-.500 teams hasn't gone well, but that was supposed to change Saturday with ace Logan Webb on the mound against the Chicago White Sox at Oracle Park.

Instead, it was more of the same as the Giants lost 5-3 to the White Sox, dropping their record to 2-5 on the eight-game homestand.

Webb was staked to an early lead when LaMonte Wade Jr. homered to open the bottom of the first inning (on his bobblehead day), but the Giants weren't able to do much after that.

The Giants' offense pushed across a run in the eighth and mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth before Mike Yastrzemski grounded out to second base to end the game.

Webb was cruising through three innings but then he ran into trouble in the fourth.

Umpire scorecard reflects tight strike zone in Giants' win vs. Dodgers

Tim Anderson led off the top of the fourth with an infield single and moved to second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Andrew Vaughn and subsequent error by Brandon Belt. Luis Robert grounded out to the catcher, allowing Anderson and Vaughn to advance. Jose Abreu walked, loading the bases for Gavin Sheets, who doubled in two runs to give the White Sox their first lead of the day.

Yoan Moncada followed with an RBI single to pad Chicago's lead.

In the sixth, Webb loaded the bases again and after getting A.J. Pollock to strike out, the Giants' ace thought he had gotten the ground ball double play to get out of the inning. But Donovan Walton's throw to first got away, allowing two runs to score.

In six innings of work, Webb allowed six hits and five runs, three of which were earned. He walked just one batter and struck out five.

The Giants will look to close out the homestand on a high note Sunday in the series finale against the White Sox.
