Padres star Tatís Jr. out three months with wrist injury

San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller announced Monday that Fernando Tatís Jr. will be out for three months due to a wrist injury and will undergo surgery.

The 23-year-old shortstop fractured his wrist during the offseason. He will have surgery that is expected to come with a three-month recovery time, which would put his return back on the map for June.

This is news to the league considering players and teams were restricted from communicating during the 2022 lockout. Information on injuries in the offseason was confidential until the stoppage ended. And now that the season is back on, we are just hearing of this injury.

Details of the injury are withheld, but it’s safe to say the Padres are in choppy waters. The team is coming off a disappointing last season, and Tatís was going to be their saving grace.

After batting .282 with 42 home runs, 97 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 130 games played, Tatis finished in third place for National League MVP voting in the 2020-2021 season.

With the 2022 MLB lockout finally wrapped, the Padres aim for a comeback from their 79-83 season last year.

Will Tatís contribute this season, or will this injury only set back the Padres?
