Rays activate IF Duffy from DL, to debut vs Yankees

Infielder Matt Duffy on Friday was activated from the disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays, the team announced.

The team acquired the infielder from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitcher Matt Moore.

Duffy, who was hitting a career-low .253 in 70 games this season, had been rehabbing from a left Achilles strain. He expects to transition to from third base to shortstop in Tampa.

The 25-year-old former Giant will make his Rays debut Friday night at Yankee Stadium. He is batting second. 

Richie Shaffer was optioned to Triple-A Durham to make room for Duffy.
