Scott Kazmir's MLB comeback has been one of the most inspiring stories of 2021.

But that story ended Saturday when the left-hander was designated for assignment by the Giants.

Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle was the first to report the move.

The Giants recalled right-hander Camilo Doval in a corresponding move.

Kazmir, 37, started Friday night's game against the Chicago Cubs. He pitched two innings and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out three in the Giants' 8-5 win over the Chicago Cubs.

On the season, Kazmir has made three appearances (two starts) and given up five earned runs in seven innings pitched.

Prior to this season, Kazmir had not pitched in the majors in five seasons. He made his return to a big league mound on May 22 against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he gave up one run in four innings pitched.

If Kazmir goes unclaimed on waivers, the Giants could send him to Triple-A Sacramento if he would accept the assignment.

The Giants are set to face the Cubs on Saturday at Oracle Park at 4:15 p.m.
