Anderson ejected after odd Webb strikeout in Giants-White Sox

The new pitch clock instituted by MLB this season already is creating odd situations, and one popped up early in the Giants' game against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

In the bottom of the third inning, with Tim Anderson facing Logan Webb and the count 1-2, the White Sox shortstop stepped out of the batter's box as the Giants' ace delivered the pitch.

Webb got a called automatic third strike as Anderson was several feet out of the box.

Anderson clearly wasn't happy. He did his job of making eye contact with the pitcher before the pitch clock reached eight seconds, but Webb had begun his motion as Anderson looked up.

Moments later, Anderson, back in the White Sox dugout, was ejected by home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn.

Based on the video, it appears Anderson was more upset with Webb than Reyburn, but the umpire took exception with the discourse and tossed the former American League batting champ.

The odd sequence likely will be a hot topic after the game.
