Why Dodgers' Muncy loathes Oracle Park despite raking vs. Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy continues to terrorize the Giants.

Monday was no different as Muncy blasted two home runs -- including a grand slam -- and tallied a career-high seven RBI in the Dodgers’ 9-1 win over the Giants at Oracle Park.

Despite Muncy’s success at Oracle Park, though, the 32-year-old isn’t very fond of the ballpark.

"I can't answer that, because I don't like this place,” Muncy said when asked why he hits so well in San Francisco. “It's cold & windy all the time. It was raining the entire game tonight. But I do hit good here. I don't understand why, but I'm not going to complain about it.”

Muncy entered the game batting .121 to start the season but finished the night hitting his 23rd career home run against San Francisco, unsurprisingly the most he has against any opponent. He has 23 home runs and 51 RBI in 73 games against the Giants.

He is the third player in Dodgers history with a seven-RBI game against the rival Giants, joining Babe Herman (1930) and Juan Uribe (2013). All three did it on enemy territory.

Over the course of his career, Muncy's slash line against the Giants is .272/.385/.618 and specifically at Oracle Park is .295/.423/.590.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Muncy said postgame. “Success in general is fun, but I guess it does mean a little bit more when it’s here.”

Muncy’s never kept his hatred for the ballpark a secret.

He previously has said he hates Oracle Park and doesn’t get the “buzz” behind it, adding that “the ball sounds terrible when you hit it.”

Well, he has crushed it plenty of times, most famously back in 2019 when he launched a fastball right into McCovey Cove against former Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner and told him to “go get it out of the ocean.”

Now, with his most recent comments about the ballpark and with two games left in the three-game series at Oracle Park, Muncy might have thrown fire into the fuel of the Giants-Dodgers storied rivalry.
