What do you get for the team that needs everything? New York thinks they have a keeper in RJ Barrett and Julius Randle played well in his first season in the Big Apple. New York also has Mitchell Robinson, who is developing quickly at center. They have a major need at point guard, small forward and overall depth.

Why Ball?

At this point in the draft process, this is still a wide open race for the top spot. Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman would likely get a long look here, but Ball might have the best chance of becoming a leader and face of the franchise type player. He has some flash to his game and might be a perfect building block to go with Barrett, Randle and Robinson.

Outside of the core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors base is pretty weak. They could definitely move this pick to grab a more mature player that can help right away, but there is a chance they fall in love with a young player that can be part of the next generation of Warriors basketball.

Why Edwards?

Edwards has incredible upside and could begin his career focused on being a disruptive force on defense and a fourth or fifth option in the offense. As he matures and trains with All-Star level players, there would be a hope that he could improve as a shooter and become more than just a super athlete. Edwards has good size and a mature body for his age. He could eat minutes early in his career at the two and three and give coach Steve Kerr some additional versatility to his lineup.

Team Needs

The T-Wolves shook things up at the deadline. Gone are Andrew Wiggins, Jeff Teague, Robert Covington and Gorgui Dieng. Minnesota is prepared to move forward with Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell as their tandem. Malik Beasley and Juan Hernangomez played extremely well after joining the squad via trade in February, but both are restricted free agents. This team has depth issues at multiple positions and a blank canvas to work with.

Why Wiseman?

Minnesota has all kinds of issues to work through, but Wiseman would give the team the opportunity to move Towns to the power forward position where he can better utilize his perimeter shooting. Can Wiseman improve the Timberwolves’ porous defense? Maybe, but he would also give them a player to build around in case the team needs to hit the reset button in the coming years.

Team Needs

After a rough start to the season, the Kings found their groove in the 20 games leading to the shutdown. They have solid depth across the board, but Harry Giles, Alex Len and Kent Bazemore are all unrestricted free agents and Bogdan Bogdanovic is restricted. Sacramento could use a shot blocker if they can’t retain Len. They also need a stretch four for the future with Nemanja Bjelica entering the final year of this deal and some help at the wing in case they lose Bazemore and/or Bogdanovic.

Why Topin?

The Kings have just a 1.8 percent chance of landing the No. 4 pick in the draft, but this is where the randomizer placed them in Mock Draft 7.0. If the Kings get lucky enough to jump eight spots, they’ll likely have their eyes set on two players in Toppin and Auburn small forward Isaac Okoro. Toppin has moved up most boards and isn’t a reach here at No. 4. He’s a high-motor, high-IQ player that can stretch the floor and bring a ton of energy. He has a lot of holes in his game on the defensive side of the ball, but with time, he can develop into an average defender at the NBA level.

Everything. Cleveland doesn’t have a franchise player to build around and it’s likely won’t find one at the top end of this draft. Colin Sexton and Darius Garland have talent, but both have a ceiling. The Cavs also have a stable of bigs, but none of them are long term solutions. Adding the best talent possible should be the only objective for this team.

Why Avdija?

Advija has good size and he’s played against tough, physical competition both in international play and professionally with Maccabi. He likely isn’t going to be a star, but he’s young, has plenty of potential and his game looks like it will transfer well to the NBA.

Team Needs

The Hawks can score and their brand of basketball is at least somewhat entertaining. They have a number one option in Trae Young and John Collins is a nice secondary scorer. Adding Clint Capella and Dewayne Dedmon at the deadline added depth to the front line and they have some promising young scorers in Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter. They could use depth at wing and power forward, plus someone who plays defense.

Why Okoro?

At some point, someone is going to have to play defense if the Hawks hope to start winning games. Okoro is a winner and a defensive juggernaut. He would slide right into the Hawks starting lineup and bring an attitude and toughness they need. If he can develop into a 3-point shooter, Okoro could be the league’s next top flight 3-and-D wing.

Detroit hit the reset button at the deadline, dealing away Andre Drummond and waiving Reggie Jackson. These two moves left the team with massive holes at point guard and center, to go with massive holes at the shooting guard and small forward positions.

Why Okongwu?

Undersized centers are all the rage in the NBA. While the comparisons to Bam Adebayo seem like a stretch, Okongwu has a dynamic skill set and he’s proven that he can put a team on his shoulders and carry them to victory. Like most bigs, it will take time for him to develop, but the Pistons aren’t going anywhere in the next few seasons anyway.

Chicago shouldn’t be this high in the lottery. They have high-end young talent at most positions, although they have had issues staying healthy. Point guard is the most glaring weakness for the team. They’ve searched for an answer since Derrick Rose began his decline and left the squad. They could also use depth around the horn, but that isn’t what a top three pick is for.

Why Anthony?

Chicago spent the No. 7 overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft on another UNC guard in Coby White and the rookie was starting to come around when the season was put on hiatus. Anthony has all the tools to become a very good starting point guard, but he’ll need time to develop. He missed substantial time with a knee issue, but he is healthy and could be an impact player at the next level.

Charlotte made a splash last summer in free agency when they spent big bucks on Terry Rozier. He isn’t a frontline starter, but he’ll manage the spot for the next few years. They’ve also added a pair of intriguing forwards in P.J. Washington and Miles Bridges over the last two drafts and guard Devonte’ Graham came out of nowhere to become a player. The Hornets could use depth all over the court, but they have a hole at center moving forward.

Why Haliburton?

It appears that teams are all over the board on Haliburton. A jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none type player, there are concerns that Haliburton doesn’t have an elite first step or elite athleticism to stuff the stat sheet at the next level like he did at Iowa State. The multi-faceted guard did enough to make a team in the top 10 say yes and they might get a steal.

Outside of Bradley Beal, the Wizards have plenty of needs, especially if they lose Davis Bertans in free agency. John Wall is set to return next season, but there are plenty of question marks with the former All-Star point guard. Rui Hachimura was a nice pick last season and Thomas Bryant is somewhat serviceable at the five.

Why Hampton?

This team needs talent, plain and simple or Beal is going to want out. There is no promise that Wall will return to form and Washington needs to take the best player available. Packed with raw ability, but in major need of development, Hampton could work his way in as a sixth-man with potential for more. His ability to change speed and direction is special and he played against grown men last year in Australia, so he might be able to help in year one.

On paper, Phoenix looks solid. Devin Booker is their star. Deandre Ayton is developing into a double-double machine in the block and Kelly Oubre is a human highlight reel that can play both forward spots. They have solid veterans off the bench and promising young players to work with. Point guard looks like a future need and they could use a rim protector to help improve their overall defense.

Why Hayes?

The Suns need a long term solution to pair next to Booker. Hayes has played professionally in Europe and despite his age, he put up quality numbers. His overall game is still developing, but he has nice size for a point guard and his court vision is well above average. If he has the opportunity to apprentice under Ricky Rubio for a year or two, Hayes could be a future starter.

A time machine. Half of Spurs roster is on the wrong side of 30 and they need an infusion of talent. The youth of the team -- DeJounte Murray, Bryn Forbes, Derrick White and Lonnie Walker -- have yet to take any measurable leap in performance. The Spurs can use help at center, power forward, small forward and both guard positions.

Why Vassell?

At 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Vassell is a player in the mold of Bruce Bowen. He projects as a plus defender at the NBA level and he knocked down 41.7 percent from 3-point range over two seasons at Florida State. In San Antonio, you don’t have to be a star, but you need to be a star in your role.

This is a team packed with young talent on the rise. They have solid pieces at the one, three, four and five and a nice veteran holdover in J.J. Redick at the two. They need depth and shooting, like every team in the league, especially with Redick turning 36 in June. They could also use more size at the three.

Why Nesmith?

Nesmith can light it up from long range and he plays multiple positions. Although he was limited due to injury, Nesmith shot 52.2 percent from long range on 8.2 attempts per game. This is an elite floor spacer that moves without the ball and will find openings in opposing defenses, especially with all eyes on Zion Williamson.

Long-term injuries to both Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic killed the Trail Blazers momentum coming into the 2019-20 season. Those two injuries also exposed the team’s lack of depth in the post. They’ll get both of those players back next season, but they are also in need of youth and more versatility at both forward positions.

Why McDaniels?

McDaniels is one of those players who can move up and down the draft board, depending on who you’re asking. He has the length and athleticism to potentially defend either forward position, but he doesn’t always play hard and his body language leaves a lot to be desired. Playing for a team like then Blazers would be humbling, especially with how they rarely use their young players in year one.

Orlando is surprisingly well-stocked with talent, although the mix needs adjustments. The Markelle Fultz experiment worked out better than expected, which might take care of the point guard spot. They have Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Issac and Nikola Vucevic filling out the remainder of the starting five. The Magic need depth, but this is a great spot in the draft for another gamble, like the one they took on Fultz.

Why Maledon?

A combo-guard in the making, Maledon has potential to develop into a quality rotational player at the NBA level. He’s played against solid competition in Europe and held his own for an 18-year-old. There is a lot to like from the film on Maledon, but he’s going to need a lot of time to mature and acclimate to the league.

Minnesota has plenty of gaps to fill. They should land a high level player in the top 10, but they need another strong selection here at No. 16. Point guard, center and small forward are all a priority.

Why Williams?

Minnesota dealt away Robert Covington at the deadline and could use a big, strong combo-forward to fill in some of the holes. His freshman numbers at Florida State aren’t anything special, but he’s young and has room to improve.

Boston is in a good place at most positions. They have plenty of young high-end performers and two very good veterans in Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward. They have a glaring hole at center, but finding a player that can go from the draft to the rotation on a top tier team isn’t easy.

Why Achiuwa?

Achiuwa plays bigger than his 6-foot-9 listing. He can score, rebound and block shots at a solid clip and he has some potential as a perimeter shooter. The Memphis product is an aggressive, high-motor center that has some switchability on defense and would fit right in with the Celtics young core.

It’s pretty basic. The Dallas Mavericks need players that can play alongside Luka Doncic. They have a few bigs on the roster that make sense, but they could use one that can play with his back to the basket on occasion.

Why Bey?

Bey is one of the better perimeter shooters coming into this season’s draft. He has potential as a 3-and-D player at the NBA level with his near 7-foot wingspan, although he isn’t an elite athlete. With the way the league is getting smaller, Bey might be able to play both forward positions, which could help him earn more minutes early in his career.

The loss of Malcolm Brogdan didn’t impact the Bucks all that much in the regular season, but we’ll have to wait to see if it hurts the NBA’s No. 1 team if the postseason ever starts. Milwaukee could use a replacement, as well as someone not named Lopez in the post.

Why Maxey?

Maxey has a ton of talent and Kentucky players are almost always better at the NBA level when the constraints of coach Cal are lifted. Maxey isn’t a great shooter at this point in his development, but he can score and he plays defense. Can he emerge as a rotational player on what should be one of the best teams in the league? That might be a reach in year one, but there is a lot of potential here.

The 2019-20 Nets have completely different needs than the 2020-21 Nets. With Kevin Durant joining the squad, as well as a hopefully healthy Kevin Durant, this should be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. They have point guard, small forward and center well stocked and this may become a destination location for free agents. Brooklyn could use some help at the power spot and like most teams, they could use more shooting.

Why Ramsey?

Nice catch-and-shoot floor spacer with potential to become a solid sixth-man. Brooklyn has built a nice base and they’ll likely start next season with a top tier starting five. They’ll need role players to support their stars and Ramsey can hit a shot and stay out of the way, at least early in his career.

Denver has done a solid job of stocking up on talent. They are set at most positions, although they could use a change of pace point guard or a long term replacement for Paul Millsap at the four.

Why Jones?

Jones made his name on the defensive end at Duke, which is music to the ears of a coach like Michael Malone. He’s a game manager type point guard that has a chance to make a long term living at the NBA level. He might drop lower than this, but Denver should be in the market for someone to run the team with Nikola Jokic steps off the court.

Philly has one of the best starting lineups in the NBA. They also have one of the worst second units. They can go in a lot of different directions at this point in the draft. They need a big to fill in when Joel Embiid goes down. They could also use a point guard that can eat minutes and allow Ben Simmons to play at one of the other four spots on the floor.

Why Stewart?

Despite his age, Stewart has a big time NBA body and he knows how to use it. He lives in the paint, outworks his opponents and plays a physical style. He scored, rebounded and blocked shots in bunches in his lone NCAA season. With Embiid’s penchant for missing time, this is a player that can step in and score in bunches.

One of the deeper teams in the Eastern Conference, Miami doesn’t have a lot of glaring weaknesses. They could use another point guard in case Goran Dragic leaves in free agency. Jae Crowder is also an unrestricted free agent that could land elsewhere.

Why Green?

This is moldable clay for head coach Erik Spoelstra to work with. A raw super athlete with plenty of holes in his game, Green could develop into a very strong player in the right system. Working with veterans like Jimmy Butler and Andre Iguodala could help with his maturation process as well.

Utah is one of the most complete teams in the NBA. They have depth at almost every position, although they could use a little more size up front and more wing players, since they play multiple unconventional small lineups.

Why Smith?

Smith learned to extend his range, which is a very good trait for a modern day big man. He made some tremendous strides in his game from his freshman to sophomore season. Utah likes to play a lot of small ball and Smith’s ability to not only block shots, but step out on the perimeter would make him an asset.

OKC hit the jackpot with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and he’s learning from one the best in Chris Paul. They also have a nice third guard in Dennis Schroder. The Thunder could use more depth at the wing and they could be in trouble if Danilo Gallinari leaves in free agency.

Why Oturu?

Oturu doesn’t play a position of need, but the depth at the wing and stretch four get pretty lean at this point in the draft. He put up big numbers at Minnesota, averaging over 20 points, 11 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. He also shot 36.5 percent from three during his sophomore season when he took a massive leap in production. OKC has big man Steven Adams, but he has one year remaining on his contract and reserve Nerlens Noel is a free agent.

This is the second of Boston’s three first-rounders. They’ll likely look to move up or move out of one or two of these spots, but if they stick around, expect them to look for draft and stash candidates or polished older NCAA players.

Why Pokuševski?

Mobile 7-footer with a 7-foot-3 wingspan and advanced shooting mechanics, Pokuševski is extremely intriguing. He’ll need time to develop, but there is a long line of Serbian bigs to make a splash in the league, plus the Celtics could leave him in Greece for a few years to get stronger. Pokuševski could go anywhere from pick No. 15 all the way to the early second round, but his skill set is bound to draw interest.

This is the Knicks’ second pick, including one in the top 10 of the draft. They have way too many holes to fill, including point guard, small forward and center. At this point in the draft, you are looking for someone with enough talent to compete and possibly steal some minutes later in the season, although pick No. 27 has produced some nice players.

Why Lewis?

Lewis is a lightning quick point guard that plays hard on both ends of the court. He needs to add a ton of weight and get stronger, but Lewis looks like one of those players that finds a niche as a scorer and sticks around in the league for a while.

If the Lakers select here, Bey fits in as is a mature player that improved greatly over his three years at Colorado. He may be able to eat minutes in year one, even for a team like Los Angeles. He’s solid defensively, rebounds and has a huge wingspan.

By the time Boston selects here, they might not have any more team needs. As it stands, they could use an upgrade at center and some overall depth. Coach Brad Stevens likes to mix and match his rotations, so versatility is usually a focus.

A near-finished product, Winston should be able to play minutes as a rookie, even for a team like Boston. He can play in the pick-and-roll and he shot a stellar 43 percent from 3-point range during his four years at Michigan State. At some point, you need to take production of potential. This is a good spot for Boston to add a solid player that can make a big shot and has the maturity to understand his role.
