Kings elect to sign second-round pick Kyle Guy to two-way contract

You never get a second chance to make a first impression and rookie Kyle Guy has made a nice showing both at the California Classic and in his first game in the Las Vegas Summer League. The Kings are ready to reward him.

The Kings announced Sunday morning that they’ve signed the 21-year-old guard to one of their two-way contracts.

Taken with the 55th overall pick out of Virginia, Guy is coming off his best game of the summer. He dropped in 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added five assists in the Kings’ 94-77 win over China on Saturday evening and appears to be getting comfortable at the next level.

By signing him to a two-way contract, the Kings retain his rights and are allowed to bring him up from the Stockton Kings of the G League a total of 45 days during the season.

When with the parent club, Guy will receive a prorated share of a rookie scale contract and can make upwards of $400,000.

There is no early word on what the Kings plan to do with fellow second rounder, Justin James. Selected with the 40th overall pick, James has been slow to get his offensive game going, but he played well in the team’s win over China, scoring 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Guy becomes the Kings’ second two-way player under contract. Forward Wenyen Gabriel signed a two-year two-way contract last summer and has played well in the summer tournaments so far.
