It was only a matter of time.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported Tuesday, citing sources, that Kings general manager Monte McNair has agreed to a contract extension.
The Kings made the agreement official later Tuesday night, while also announcing an extension for assistant general manager Wes Wilcox.
“This has been an exciting season and I’m proud to have the opportunity to continue building a winning franchise in Sacramento,” McNair said in a statement. “I am especially grateful to Vivek, the entire Kings organization and the fans for supporting me every step of the way.
"I’d like to thank our players and coaches for their hard work on and off the court. And I’m excited to have Wes Wilcox’s continued counsel and partnership, along with the rest of our fantastic front office and staff. We recognize we have more work to do, and I look forward to what’s ahead.”
Kings owner and chairman Vivek Ranadivé expressed his gratitude for McNair in a statement.

McNair entered the 2022-23 NBA season in the final year of his three-year contract he initially signed when he was hired in September 2020.
Over the last three years, McNair has flipped the Kings' roster from Western Conference bottom-dwellers to playoff contenders. Only three players remain from the original roster McNair inherited in 2020: forward Harrison Barnes, guard De'Aaron Fox and center Richaun Holmes.
Shortly after McNair's hiring, the Kings signed Fox to a maximum five-year extension and has been dedicated to building the roster around Fox since that day.

McNair made a flurry of significant moves in the last calendar year, trading for star center Domantas Sabonis, drafting Keegan Murray at No. 4 overall, acquiring sharpshooter Kevin Huerter in a swap with the Atlanta Hawks and signing Malik Monk in free agency.
Sacramento, still riding the 16-year postseason drought, currently is third in the West at 27-19. The Kings own the top-scoring offense in the NBA (120.3 points per game) and rank second in offensive rating (117.9).
