Raiders to host joint practices with Lions

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden likes joint practices in training camp. They add an edge to proceedings, increase competition during a time typically focused internally, and break up the monotony of training camp life.

Gruden has said the Raiders joint practices were in the works for this summer. They have been finalized now.

The Raiders will host joint practices with the Detroit Lions on Aug. 7-8 in Napa, before an Aug. 10 preseason game between the clubs. The Lions made sense, especially with the L.A. Rams as the second preseason opponent and Gruden's foe in the regular season opener.

The Raiders last held joint practices in 2014, against the Dallas Cowboys in Oxnard. They haven't hosted jointed practices in Napa since the 49ers came to wine country in 2009.
