Draymond defends stepping on Domas, explains Game 2 ejection

SACRAMENTO -- Sitting at the postgame podium after the Warriors' 114-106 Game 2 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Golden 1 Center, Draymond Green had a quick and simple explanation for what happened between him and Domantas Sabonis with seven minutes remaining in a wild scene that resulted in his ejection.

"My leg got grabbed," Green said. "Second time in two nights. Referees just watch it. I have to land my foot somewhere. I'm not the most flexible person, so that's not stretching.

"I can only step so far, and I was pulling my leg away. Is what it is."

As multiple players fought for a Malik Monk missed floater, Sabonis fell to the ground but immediately wrapped both his arms around Green's right leg. The Warriors forward lifted his right leg while Sabonis still held on, and came down hard on the chest of the Kings' star center.

Play was quickly stopped while Sabonis stayed on the floor in clear pain.

Upon replay review, Sabonis was hit with a technical foul for holding Green's leg. But Green was given a Flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an ejection.

"The explanation was I stomped too hard," Green said of his ejection.

While both teams waited for results of what would happen next, one of the greatest agitators in the game's history had his own personal show with Kings fans. He walked to center court and first waved them away. Green then came back to the Warriors' bench and took on screams and boos raining down in Sacramento.

The 33-year-old stood on a chair and gave everything he had back to a packed house of roaring, rowdy fans.

To him, it was all fun and games.

"It's a fun game, fun atmosphere to play," Green said.

To clarify, Green says Monk, the Kings valuable sixth man, is who grabbed his leg in Game 1 before his incident with Sabonis two nights later.

In his eyes, game official John Goble watched Monk hold his leg Saturday night, and Zach Zarba had a clear view of Sabonis doing the same thing Monday night.

"I guess ankle grabbing is OK," Green said.

Klay Thompson didn't condone what Green did, but he also wasn't pleased with Sabonis' actions.

"I mean, what are you going to do when someone grabs your leg when you're running full speed?" Thompson said. "Like that's a dirty ... fully grabs your leg and yanks on you? That's not cool, man.

"I'm not saying what Draymond did was right but you can't just grab somebody's foot when they are taking off in a full sprint. That's not cool. I don't do that. That's crazy."

The Kings had a 153 offensive rating the rest of the way with Green out for the final seven minutes. Both teams battled to the final few minutes, but Green's absence certainly was missed.

The Warriors now head home to San Francisco down two-games-to-none in a playoff series for the first time ever since Green, Steph Curry and Thompson first made the postseason in 2013.
