Draymond reveals why Warriors had to explore KD trade return

Months after Warriors star Steph Curry told reporters he was open to a reunion with Kevin Durant, it was Draymond Green's turn to share his thoughts.

Talking with Pierce Simpson in the first episode of "Unfiltered with Complex Sports," the 32-year-old revealed the Warriors' thought process when the Brooklyn Nets star initially requested a trade over the summer.

"The discussion was like, 'Hey, if Kevin is available, do you go after it to bring him back?' " Green said. "My thing was, you can't never not think about that."

Green noted that everyone in the league knows what Durant, one of the purest scorers in NBA history, is capable of and his volatility is what makes him such a tantalizing prospect to add to any team.

The Warriors' defensive ace also mentioned that the moment teams stop looking at potentially adding Durant to the mix is when they "lose."

"You stopped looking at the possibilities of improving and once you stop looking at those possibilities of improving, that's it," Green added.

The veteran forward also said that if a player of Durant's caliber is available via trade, teams -- regardless of who they are -- will always do their due diligence and at least throw out some feelers.

"You have to call, you just have to," Green told Simpson. "Because Kevin Durants don't become available often, so you have to look at it."

Although Green was very confident in Golden State's ability to repeat as NBA champions if it acquired Durant, he is happy with the current group.

"But as far as whether we did it or not, if we do, great," Green continued. "That's cool -- we'll beat the s--t out of everybody again.

"If we don't, great. Because like I said before, we're still going to win again."

By now, Durant's exploits with the Warriors are well-known: Two NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, three Finals appearances, and three All-Star selections in the three years he was with Golden State.

Green also believes that Durant had been wanting to sign with Golden State as a free agent in 2016 before formally announcing his intentions to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In the end, the Warriors don't blame Durant for joining the Nets and understand why he made that decision.

However, should trade speculations surround Durant once again, it's clear the Warriors will be keeping a close eye on the situation.
