Ex-Dub Cook seeking another shot in NBA, had hit rock bottom

Quinn Cook was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, a three-year starter at Duke and the second-leading scorer on the Blue Devils team that won the national title in 2015.

But Cook went undrafted in 2015 and couldn't latch on in the NBA until the fall of 2017 when he signed a two-way contract with the Warriors. Six months later, he earned a multi-year contract with Golden State.

That June, Cook helped the Warriors win an NBA championship alongside his childhood friend Kevin Durant. Life was good. He played in 74 games for Golden State during the 2018-19 season and as a free agent that summer, signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and won a second ring with them in the bubble in Orlando, Fla.

Cook managed to play 23 games between the Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers last season, but he wasn't able to find an NBA home during the 2021-22 season.

The Warriors worked out Cook in September but went in a different direction. He went to training camp with the Portland Trail Blazers but they released him during the preseason. He spent two months playing in Russia before being released. He signed with the Stockton Kings in the G League in February, but he's still waiting for an NBA team to call.

The 29-year-old just wants another chance, and as he tweeted Sunday, he would cherish that shot more than either of the NBA titles he won.

During his time with the Warriors, Cook averaged 7.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 107 games. Overall during his NBA career, he's averaging 6.4 points in 188 games.

Cook's last NBA game came almost one year ago, when he played 14 minutes for the Cavaliers against the Lakers on March 26, 2021. He scored nine points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field and 1-of-3 from behind the 3-point line.

With just a few weeks left in the regular season, it's unclear if a team would be willing to sign Cook for the remainder of the campaign, but it's not out of the question.

The better bet for Cook might be to showcase his skills over the summer, get a training camp invite before next season and try to earn a roster spot.

Cook has a lot of fans among the Warriors and in the Bay Area, and they very likely are rooting for him to get another chance in the NBA.
