Kevin Durant given 16th technical foul, won't be suspended for Game 1

Kevin Durant picked up his 16th technical foul of the season Wednesday night, which normally equates to a one-game suspension.

But don’t worry: The Warriors star won’t be banned from Game 1 of the first-round playoff matchup against the LA Clippers

The technical foul accumulation penalty resets in the postseason, so everything starts fresh. KD knew what he was doing.

"I knew it starts over in the playoffs," Durant told reporters after the Warriors' loss in Memphis. "And I kind of figured [official Kane Fitzgerald] would rescind that one anyway, so I wasn't too nervous."

The NBA did indeed rescind the technical foul on Thursday, NBC Sports Bay Area's Logan Murdock confirmed.

Durant was bemused over being called for his 16th tech early in the first quarter in the Warriors’ 132-117 loss to the Grizzlies, as Durant was whistled for bumping into an official. However, KD spoke to Fitzgerald after the play and chalked it up to a misunderstanding.

"[Fitzgerald] said I bumped into him after I was walking back to the scorer's table," Durant explained to reporters after the game. "I did bump into him, but it wasn't intentionally, and I was going to wipe my feet off. He thought I was following him to the scorer's table. But you guys see I wipe my foot off after every stop of play.

"So, it was miscommunication. We talked about it and said he was going to look at it. I'm sure he's going to send it in to the league to get that rescinded."

In the playoffs, all players get a clean slate and are allowed seven technical fouls before being suspended by the NBA.

Even if the tech wasn't rescinded, KD would be out there for Game 1. But now “seven” instead of “16” is the number to monitor as the Warriors' playoff run starts.
