Klay: Steph's 34 points in Game 2 made me look ‘stupid'

Klay Thompson is no stranger to Steph Curry's greatness, but even he couldn't help but laugh at the Warriors star's performance Monday in Golden State's 126-106 Game 2 win over the Denver Nuggets at Chase Center.

Curry, coming off the bench in just his second game back after spraining his left foot, poured in 34 points on 12-for-17 shooting to lead the Warriors to a two-games-to-none series lead. Curry showed some rust in Game 1 after being for a month. Thompson, who returned from a 941-day absence in January and struggled to find his consistency, knows how incredible it is for Curry to do what he did Monday.

"I just wanted to be me," Thompson said on "Warriors Postgame Live" when asked how he approached playing with a minutes restriction. "Flying off screens, playing solid defense, moving the ball, pump fake one dribble pull up. I mean, Steph made me look stupid tonight. He's on a minutes restriction and he went out there and got 34 points. That's what I was trying to do.

"But he also didn't have a couple of years off. That's just Steph being Steph."

Thompson was no slouch himself in Game 2 as the five-time All-Star dropped 21 points on 9-for-19 shooting as the Warriors erased an early 12-point deficit to cruise to victory.

While Thompson (21) and Jordan Poole (29) were sensational, Curry was obviously the story, as is the case whenever he starts shimmying in the playoffs.

"Jesus. Steph was a plus-32," Draymond Green said after getting his first look at the box score postgame. "That's incredible."

Incredible. Stupid. Steph being Steph. When those terms start flying around, it feels like nothing has changed in the Bay Area.
