There won't be a reunion between DeMarcus Cousins and the Warriors.
The former All-NBA center has agreed to a one-year contract with the Houston Rockets, The Athletic's Shams Charania and ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported Monday, both citing sources.

Charania reported that Cousins' contract with the Rockets will be non-guaranteed.
There wasn't a reported link between Cousins and the Warriors, but with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski's report that the free agent big man was drawing interest from teams, and the Warriors' desire to add another center, a second tour of duty could have made sense.
Cousins missed the entire 2019-20 NBA season after tearing his ACL last summer. He had signed with the Los Angeles Lakers before the injury, but they cut him midway through the season.

Assuming Cousins is healthy, he should get a chance to start right away for the Rockets. Houston traded Clint Capela last season in favor of a small-ball lineup, and before Cousins' arrival, they didn't have a true center on their roster. The Rockets did agree to terms with 6-foot-10 Christian Wood in free agency, who will also command minutes in the frontcourt.
With a new front office and coaching staff in place, expect the Rockets to return to a traditional starting lineup, with Cousins getting a good chunk of minutes at center.
While the Warriors would have been a soft landing spot for Cousins to rebuild his value, he will find considerably more playing time in Houston. Assuming things go well for him this season, he could re-enter the free agent market next summer and net a multi-year contract.
It remains to be seen what kind of team Cousins has joined. Stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook reportedly aren't happy with the situation in Houston and could be traded in the coming weeks. The Rockets already traded Robert Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers, and more players could be on the move.

But Cousins should get plenty of minutes, no matter who is on the team, so that's probably the most important thing to him.
The Warriors still could use another center on their roster, but they don't necessarily need to add one right now. There still are some serviceable free agents on the market who could sign before the season starts or during the season.
