Following their gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Team USA's men's basketball team is looking for a new head coach.
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich replaced Duke's Mike Krzyzewski after the 2016 Olympics. But Popovich is stepping away to solely focus on the Spurs, and his replacement could be his close friend.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr has emerged as a favorite to become the next Team USA head coach, Marc Stein reported Thursday.

"Of course I'd be interested," Kerr said Thursday to reporters. "Let's see how it all plays out."
"Of course I’d be interested. I mean, who wouldn’t be?" Kerr said in August to The Athletic's Tim Kawakami. "I’ll leave it at that. I have no idea how it will all transpire -- there are a lot of great candidates out there.
"And if I were to be considered, that would be an honor.”

Kerr has ties to Team USA as both a player and coach. He played for Team USA when he was a guard at the University of Arizona and won the 1986 FIBA World Championship. Over the summer, he served as an assistant coach for Popovich's staff that took home gold.
