James Harden in mid-November reportedly let the Houston Rockets know that he wanted to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets or Philadelphia 76ers.
But with NBA training camps set to open this week, Harden has not yet been shipped out of town.

"You had several teams inquire," The Athletic's Shams Charania said Tuesday on the "Load Management" podcast. "The Warriors at one point made a call in for James Harden.
"But at the end of the day, if you don't have the requisite pieces, it's a moot point. Houston has the leverage. He's under contract for two more years."

You might be saying to yourself right now: "Wait, what?! This actually happened?!"
But the reality is that if one of the top-10 players in the NBA lets it be known he wants to play elsewhere, why not just check in to see what the situation is?

Did Golden State make a legitimate offer? Did the call take place before or after Klay Thompson sustained a torn right Achilles tendon Nov. 18?
"I heard that one a little bit before the injury to Klay," Charania said. "I don't even believe an offer was made. I think it was just an inquiry like, 'We have a major potential offer here if you guys want to discuss.'
"Houston was open to hearing out different offers and proposals ... but it never even progressed to that point."
It's safe to assume the Warriors would have been willing to give up the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft (which ended up being James Wiseman), and the Minnesota Timberwolves' 2021 top-three protected 1st rounder (which becomes unprotected in 2022).
And who knows, perhaps Golden State and Houston circle back at some point down the line. You just never know what can happen in today's NBA.
