OAKLAND -- For the first time in eight weeks, second-year guard Patrick McCaw is expected to be active for a Warriors game, according to multiple sources.
Should the Warriors follow through on their desire to activate McCaw, it is not anticipated he will play Saturday at Oracle Arena for Game 6 of the Warriors-Rockets Western Conference Finals.
It’s exceedingly rare that a player is listed as “out” one day before a game, as was the case with McCaw on Friday, and upgraded to “available” the next day.

Cleared three weeks ago for “modified” basketball activities, McCaw told NBC Sports Bay Area on Thursday that he was pain-free and had progressed well enough to resume normal activities but was still “working on” basketball movements.
McCaw also said he was to be re-evaluated in the next few days, which follows the initial re-evaluation timeline of four weeks, which the Warriors announced on May 3. He has been working under the supervision of the team’s training staff and medical experts but had not received a complete reevaluation as of Saturday morning.
McCaw sustained a severe back injury on March 31 at Sacramento. Taken off the court on a stretcher, he spent that night at UC-Davis Medical Center. After being diagnosed with a lumbar spine contusion, he was released the next day.

McCaw has been traveling with the team during the conference finals and has been practicing with certain restrictions.
The Warriors’ plan to activate McCaw for Game 6 was first reported by Yahoo Sports.
