Steph gives cryptic answer on Simmons trade conversations

Ben Simmons continues to be embroiled in trade rumors as his reported distaste with the Philadelphia 76ers intensifies, and the Warriors continue to be one of the teams mentioned as a potential landing spot. Steph Curry joined "Brother From Another" on Friday, and gave a cryptic answer when asked whether he has spoken to the Warriors' front office about a potential trade for Simmons or another star.

"If you're not having those conversations, then you're not trying," Curry told Michael Smith and Michael Holley on Friday. "Let's put it that way."

The Simmons rumors picked up steam on Saturday morning, as The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that a number of 76ers players had a plan to fly to Los Angeles to meet with the former No. 1 pick in person. Simmons reportedly told the players not to come, and that he wasn't going to be changing his mind on his trade request.

Curry and the Warriors' core reportedly spoke with the front office this offseason about making a trade for an impact player, with Bradley Beal being atop that reported wishlist.

Philadelphia reportedly has a massive asking price for Simmons, but rumors like this only stand to decrease the leverage the 76ers could have in discussions.

Curry likely wants to avoid what happened to Warriors CEO Joe Lacob, who was fined $50,000 last week after mentioning Simmons' potential fit with the team during an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle.

As long as the 76ers are asking for multiple draft picks and instant contributors in exchange for Simmons' services, the Warriors almost certainly won't be involved in any real talks with Philly's front office.

With Simmons appearing to be preparing for a holdout, that price could come down and accelerate his potential exit from the City of Brotherly Love.
