Steph jokes he still doesn't understand NBA's take-foul rule

Steph Curry has some fun with the take-foul rule and also praises Draymond Green’s defense during his third-quarter appearance on the Warriors-Pistons broadcast.

Steph Curry had a little fun at the NBA’s expense when he joined the NBC Sports Bay Area Warriors broadcast in the third quarter vs. the Detroit Pistons (before of course Golden State's heartbreaking 122-119 buzzer-beater loss).

“This new [take] rule,” Curry quipped. “I promise you. We still don’t understand it.”

As defined by the NBA, “the take foul — in which the defender does not make a play on the ball — is what the league classifies as one that occurs either ‘during a transition scoring opportunity or immediately following a change of possession and before the offensive team had the opportunity to advance the ball’…The new penalty for such a foul is one free throw, which may be attempted by any player on the offended team in the game at the time the foul was committed, along with continued possession by the offended team.”

No wonder the league’s greatest shooter is confused, not to mention the “Petty King” loves to needle the officials, like when he hilariously mimicked one on Christmas vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.

So what does Curry do to gain an advantage with referees? “Well now if it happens in the open court, just yell ‘take foul’ usually.”
