Giannis named All-Star Game MVP despite Steph winning fan vote

Dub Nation might have felt more like Snub Nation when the All-Star Game MVP was announced on Sunday night.

Despite Steph Curry’s ridiculously entertaining 28-point effort, Giannis Antetokounmpo was named MVP after going 16-of-16 from the field for 35 points in Team LeBron’s 170-150 win over Team Durant.

Warriors fans and Curry fans made their voices heard by claiming two out of the three possible fan votes via NBA.com, Twitter and text messaging. But Antetokounmpo took the other 10 possible votes, including a clean sweep of all nine media members.

It’s hard to argue against a player of Antetokounmpo’s stature getting the trophy when he had a perfect night from the field and led all scorers. Everything was going right for Antetokounmpo, who even banked in a 3-pointer at one point.

But Curry was an absolute magician from the tip-off and had some unforgettable moments:

That’s what the All-Star Game is all about -- putting on a show. Antetokounmpo might have won this award because of his numbers, but Curry once again proved that he is arguably the most skilled and exciting player to watch in basketball.

Even when surrounded by his greatest peers, Curry finds a way to stand out and make us all ‘ooh’ and’ ahh’ like no one else. He’ll just have to be content with the win and taking home his trophy from the 3-point Contest earlier in the afternoon.
