Dell Curry says Steph's a pass-first player who learned to score

Is Steph Curry a point guard who can shoot or a shooting guard who is slotted into the Warriors lineup as the point guard?

The debate will rage on as long as Curry is playing in the NBA, and perhaps long after his career is over.

The last two Warriors wins have shown Curry can be whatever the team needs on a given night. In their Game 7 win over the Sacramento Kings in the first round on Sunday, he scored a playoff career-high 50 points. In Golden State's Game 2 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, Curry scored 20 points while dishing out 12 assists.

Dell Curry joined NBC Sports Bay Area's Festus Ezeli on "Warriors Pregame Live" before Game 3 of the second-round playoff series at Crypto.com Arena and addressed what his son has been able to do in recent games.

"Fourteen-year veteran, he's seen it all," Dell Curry told Ezeli. "I think he now understands how teams are going to guard him and the gravity that he has on the offensive end. You've got to trust your teammates to take up the slack there when you're getting double- and triple-teamed. That's where he continues to evolve.

"He's always been a pass-first guy since high school days on who has learned how to score with the best of them. But if you force him to pass the ball, he's going to make the right read."

While Curry universally is considered the greatest shooter in NBA history and owns the record for most 3-pointers ever (3,390), he also has 5,740 regular-season assists, which is the most in Warriors franchise history and 45th all-time in league history.

The Warriors always need Curry to score and he's counted on for around 30 points per night, but if the matchup calls for him to be a distributor, he is up for the task.

Dell Curry's comments certainly won't end the debate, but they definitely carry a lot of weight.
