Steph says Warriors not ‘accustomed' to learning while losing

The Warriors are on the verge of a five-game losing streak for the first time since Feb. 27, 2022.

As defending NBA champions, and after winning their fourth title in eight seasons, losing isn’t really something the Warriors are used to.

After Golden State dropped its fourth straight game in their 130-129 loss to the Orlando Magic on Thursday at Amway Center, Steph Curry analyzed the state of the team after his season-high 39 points went to waste in the loss.

“We’re in a different kind of mode,” Curry told reporters postgame. “We’re obviously losing, that’s four in a row. We’ve been accustomed to learning while winning. And you find ways to dig it out even if you don’t have it or you’re building chemistry or whatever it is.

“We haven’t been in a position like this in a while where you understand you have to play better and you’re losing and it’s just not a good feeling all around.”

Similar to what coach Steve Kerr said after the game, Curry knows something has to change.

"We don’t want to be insane and keep doing the same thing and expecting different results, but we have to kind of pick each other up and understand that everyone in that locker room has to figure it out," Curry said. "That’s what the job requires, we understand that. It’s just tough right now to go out and keep fighting hard, understand our energy and our effort was there and you don’t have any results to show for it."

On top of the season-high 39 points on Thursday, Curry made eight 3-pointers and had nine assists.

Against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, Curry recorded his first triple-double of the season.

Both efforts were wasted and overshadowed by losses.

The 3-point king is averaging 30 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists through the first eight games this season.

The Warriors aren't used to losing and the league shouldn't get used to it either. Something needs to click for Golden State and that can start against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday at Smoothie King Center.
