The news regarding a single-car accident that seriously injured Tiger Woods dominated the sports world on Tuesday, and by no means is the NBA an exception.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr grew up a short drive from the Southern California road where the accident occurred, and he was uncharacteristically somber during his pregame news conference 90 minutes before tipoff against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
“I saw the news a couple hours ago on my phone,” Kerr said in a video conference. “It’s obviously very, very scary. Just waiting to hear further news. Really hoping for the best news possible. But very, very scary.”

Woods’ SUV left the road, considered treacherous by locals, around 7 a.m. PT and rolled over on a hillside, resulting in multiple leg fractures but no life-threatening injuries, according to news reports. The superstar golfer underwent surgery late Tuesday morning.

Several NBA players, including Warriors stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, expressed concern via social media.
News of the accident struck a particularly sorrowful chord with many, as it took place in the same general region where NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash 13 months ago.
