BOSTON - The Red Sox are meeting with knuckleballer Steven Wright on Wednesday to discuss the possibility he undergoes surgery on his left knee, an operation that would likely end his 2017 season and have him ready for spring training next year.

No final decision has been made after Wright visited a knee specialist.

An All-Star a year ago (13-6, 3.33 ERA) before his season was cut short when he injured his right shoulder while pinch-running, Wright has had trouble finding his release point but was making progress. His knee, which had been bothering him, worsened.

He’s struggled so far this season going 1-3 with an 8.25 ERA.
